Backpacking - Rainy Lake Mt Hood

Our first ever hike! All I remember is how cold and wet it was :( but it was an amazing hike and camping.

We started from Wahtum lake through Waucoma Ridge and camped at Rainy Lake. Rainy Lake is also accessible by car and there were some car campers. But staying right next to the lake was far enough from them to enjoy the peaceful lake and not to hear their noisy generator.

However, even in the early October, everything was so wet. SO WET. It took a huge effort to start the fire (it was due to the stupid starter that just fell apart immediately and didn't burn long enough) and to keep the fire too. It required constant (not kidding, literally constant) fanning to keep the fire going and it wore my arm out so much that it woke me up multiple times during the night because I felt like the arm was being ripped off.

But we managed to keep the fire as long as possible, had ramyon, chilli and fritos for dinner.

A small camping site by the lake. It was very convenient to have water right there. Of course getting to stare at the tranquil lake all the time was a huge bonus.

It was a cold night - just above/below freezing I think. It frosted next moring. We woke up many times first because we were nervous as this was our first camping, but also because it was so freaking cold.

But we survived through the night! Having a cup of coffee by the lake :)

Hiking back to the car. Majestic Mt. Hood was visible here and there.
